reaction time

Postby Dojadog » 05 Apr 2026, 07:21

Guys, how is it possible that I just don’t have enough time to respond to almost every shot from my opponents?
Especially online, it’s impossible for me to win a match. Against the CPU I can currently hold my own at Pro 2 level, but online it’s absolutely impossible to return shots. I don’t have enough time. I know where I’d like to go, but I never get there in time. Am I doing something wrong? I play with a controller, and the network and ping seem good. The only way to play is to try to guess where the ball will go and position myself there in advance. 😭😭

Probably is your shot quality
If you don’t hit good quality shots probably opposition is firing 140-150+ km/h shots often and those are impossible to get if you don’t move early

I’d say holding your own against pro2 is not good enough to control rallies online. I’d recommend you to keep grinding offline at least up to pro10 and master 10 if you really want to hop into online when you’re ready

It’s not like all online players have cat-like reflexes, is just that the average ball quality is way higher so it’s harder to hit those bombs so rallies go on a bit longer until someone pulls the trigger or makes a mistake

Practice practice practice. I am the same, single player career I now play at Pro 8 and win most of the matches. My player is mixed out and auto movement average. Yet online I am something like 0-10 and only have won 2 or 3 games....I am just not good enough so I need to further improve, simple as that. Especially returning serves is so hard, every player hits like 2 or 3 aces per game against me which makes it almost impossible to win a match but i will get there. Maybe it's my age of 51 which has me me slow haha.

Dojadog,
you can test your reflexes here : https://humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime .

If the test result is suspiciously high (ie: above 270ms), it means you have a big input lag on your monitor.

If you want to partly compensate for that, you can activate the Footwork Boost in your Character Sheet to play against the CPU (but not online).

You may want to work on your positioning as well : to defend well, you have to be in the middle of your opponent's possibilities (like on a real court), not in the exact middle of the court.
