Bonjour ! I'm a new TE4 player and I'd like to pay TE4 via Ubuntu 24.04 on my old Desktop as the screen is bigger than my screen on my more-recent windows laptop. I tried with TE2013 via Steam/Ubuntu and it worked fine but with TE4 (via Steam on Ubuntu 24.04), I've got a Unity 2021.3 error message when I launch it via steam, and then it goes back to Steam and the game does not start (please see attached).
I tried some different settings with the "compatiblity Steam Play" and with the help of AI with no luck...
The game is working great on my windows laptop though

Hello,

unlike TE2013, there's no Linux version of TE4 on Steam, but the game works anyway on SteamDeck, so it's compatible with Proton. But I have no idea if it's supposed to work with Ubuntu 24.04, it's really outside of my domain.

If you already tried all the different possible compatibility modes, then maybe try to do a Google search about Unity 2021, Steam, Proton & Ubuntu.

Yes, you are right, searching a bit more, I tried a few other Proton versions which enabled to progress as I got another error message (about Direct X11)
Finally, I got it worked on Ubuntu (using AI's help...) :!
Steps are as follows: on Steam, right click on the game, then Properties/General, add the following Launch Option: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
I also put back the Compatibility to default (ie. not forcing the use of any specific Steam Play compatibility tool)
It now works very well on Ubuntu/Steam, it s quite amazing
